Connecting The Dottes with Big Cam I Am

By Intern Thomajii Morgan, Assistant Coach Isaiah Maxey in collaboration with Journalist Levi Lee

On July 12th and 13th, the Kansas City Kansas Community College was abuzz with excitement as it hosted two significant events: "For CREATORS Only" and "Another Satisfying Racial Moment Comedy Special," both spearheaded by the illustrious local comedian and influencer Big Cam I Am. These events were not just a testament to the thriving creative culture in Kansas City but also an invaluable learning experience for us, Thomajii Morgan and Isaiah Maxey, from the Jegna Klub.

As members of the production team, we were entrusted with the responsibility of capturing the essence of these events through our lenses. This experience was not just about operating cameras; it was a deep dive into the world of live event production, where every moment is precious, and every frame counts.

The Experience: Thrilling and Transformative

Thomajii Morgan:

Walking into the bustling environment of Big Cam I Am’s events, I felt a surge of excitement. This was my chance to contribute to something bigger than myself. Recording the "Another Satisfying Racial Moment Comedy Special" was particularly exhilarating. I was responsible for capturing the energy and expressions of the comedians, ensuring that every punchline was immortalized on film. It felt amazing to be part of this vibrant event, knowing that my work would be seen by many.

Isaiah Maxey:

For me, the experience was surreal. Transitioning from the role of a coach to being part of another production team was both challenging and rewarding. Working alongside Big Cam I Am and the rest of the BCIA Productions team was an honor. The thrill of live production, where there are no second chances, made the experience all the more intense. It was a significant shift from the structured environment of coaching, but it was one that I embraced wholeheartedly.

Key Learnings: Skills and Insights Gained

Thomajii Morgan:

One of the most crucial lessons I learned was the importance of perseverance. In live event production, not every shot will be perfect, and that’s okay. The key is to stay focused and keep filming. There will always be another opportunity to capture the perfect moment. This lesson in persistence is something that will stay with me, both in my future career and in life.

Isaiah Maxey:

From a technical standpoint, I learned how to pan the camera smoothly, ensuring that the footage looks professional and polished. But beyond the technical skills, I also learned the importance of collaboration and communication within a team. Every member of the production crew plays a vital role, and understanding how to work together seamlessly is crucial. This experience has given me a newfound appreciation for the intricacies of live event production.

Real-World Impact: Beyond the Camera Lens

Thomajii Morgan:

This experience has been instrumental in broadening my horizons. Working on these events has shown me new perspectives and introduced me to skills I had never explored before. It’s given me a fresh outlook on my future career possibilities and reinforced the importance of stepping out of my comfort zone. Being part of the Jegna Klub, this real world experience will undoubtedly help me contribute more effectively to our projects and initiatives.

Isaiah Maxey:

For me, this real world experience has been eye-opening. It made me realize that I have a passion for working behind the camera, something I had never considered before. This newfound interest will not only enrich my personal life but also enhance my role within the Jegna Klub. I now have the skills and knowledge to guide and mentor other interns, sharing the insights I gained from these two intense days of live production.

Acknowledgments and Future Prospects

We owe a great deal of gratitude to Big Cam I Am and the Jegna Klub for this opportunity. Big Cam I Am’s positive feedback was incredibly encouraging. He stated, “I appreciate the Jegna Klub for helping out BCIA Productions. I asked Coach Mo to send me his best and he sent Assistant Coach Isaiah Maxey and Intern Thomajii Morgan. That says a lot and they exceeded my expectations. I will be asking for them by name for our next production.”

These words are a testament to the hard work and dedication we poured into these events. They also highlight the support and trust placed in us by our Jegna Klub administration.

Looking ahead, we are excited about the future. This experience has opened new doors for us, both within the world of live event production and beyond. We are eager to apply the skills and lessons we’ve learned to future projects, helping to elevate the work of Connecting The Dottes and Jegna Klub TV as we continue our journey of personal and professional growth.

Our time working on Big Cam I Am’s events was nothing short of transformative. It was a blend of excitement, learning, and real-world application that has left a lasting impact on us. We are grateful for the experience and look forward to many more opportunities to learn and grow in the future.
